Tokyo is quiet, so just a quick thought in addition. I have been musing at night that we are staying in a 13 story building, with 70 appartments on each floor, and we never hear anyone. (Except the occasional vacuuming of the hallway). We are right, bang in the middle of the city, in Shinjuku, and there is never yelling, or drunkeness, or any infringement on anyone else. Even in packed trains and in elevators, everyone is quiet. You are not allowed to speak on your mobile in the train….. It’s very relaxing, really.
